Wed 24th Aug 2016 - BrewDog unveils ‘Punk Kitchen’ plan for shuttered Islington site
BrewDog unveils ‘Punk Kitchen’ plan for shuttered Islington site: BrewDog has unveiled a "Punk Kitchen" plan for its Dog Eat Dog site in Islington, which served hot dogs prior to its closure earlier this year. The company stated: “We have some huge news about one of our existing locations – the bar previously known as Dog Eat Dog, in Angel. We have thought long and hard about a new plan for our Essex Road bar, and decided that we needed to switch things up – every single month. So we are introducing Punk Kitchen; celebrating the glory of London’s pop-up restaurants. Opening at 12 noon this Friday (26 August), Punk Kitchen will showcase one of the capital’s artisanal foodmakers each month – and the first residents need no introduction to anyone who enjoys a wander through the amazing Broadway Market in Hackney. For the next 30 days we are proud to be joining forces with one of the hottest pop-ups in town – London Laksa. If your thing is amazingly punchy noodles with combinations featuring spicy prawns, tofu, fresh fish and chilli then Laksa is for you. It is perfect late-summer dining – and we can’t wait to have the guys take the helm of the very first Punk Kitchen! So for example, the marinade of the Laksa fried prawns (a blend of curry and coconut) has a fragrant richness that would be offset and complemented perfectly with the citrus and spice in our hopped-up saison Electric India. And the Laksa noodle soup has layers of sambal chilli that would bring out the high points of our flagship Punk IPA whilst the chicken, prawns and fish round out the hoppy hit to perfection. As brewers we love collaborating with other like-minded breweries to make new beers, and with Punk Kitchen we are bringing this ethos to a whole new arena. The guys at London Laksa have blazed a trail in the capital and we can’t wait to begin a month of fragrant, spiced noodles and curries. And for those who like barbecue – stay tuned for our next residents, the awesome Billy Smokes! Punk Kitchen is located at 21-31 Essex Road, Islington, N1 2SA. Opening hours will be 4pm-10pm Thursdays and 12pm-10pm Friday to Sunday, with the doors opening for the first time at 12pm this coming Friday.”
